Are you annoyed with the slow performance of the Wodrpress Web Editor? You are not alone! Many people find the Wordpress Web Editor too slow. Worry no further. You can supercharge your blog posting by writing the articles using the Windows Live Writer!

Microsoft Windows Live Writer is a free desktop application that can be used to write your blog post. Since this application runs on your computer, it runs very fast compared to a web based editor. Windows Live Writer can be downloaded from the Microsoft’s Windows Live portal at the following location. The Live Writer is actually a part of a suite of applications from Windows Live platform. Other applications from the Windows Live platform include Mail, Messenger, Photo Gallery and Family Safety.

Once you have installed Live Writer on your PC, you can start the application by going to All Programs –> Windows Live –> Windows Live Writer.

The first thing to do after installing your Windows Live Writer is to provide Live Writer with your blog details.  To do this simply select the Blogs menu option and then select Add blog account and follow the simple setup dialogs.

Once you have connected the Live Writer to your blog, Live Writer can download your Blog Theme so that when you create a blog post you will know how the post will look on the web.

As you can see from the above picture, the Live Writer has a clean and simple interface. Windows Live Writer can handle categories, tags, picture formatting and insertion.

Live Writer also comes with other advanced features such as ability to insert maps, add photo albums (from your Windows Live account), add YouTube videos etc. Live Writer also supports plug-ins that can be downloaded from the Windows Live portal.

Once you have finished your blog post simply hit the Publish button (on the top toolbar) and your blog post along with all the attachments (such as Images and Videos) will be uploaded to your blog.

One limitation I found with Windows Live Writer is that it does not support Custom Fields. Therefore if your Wordpress theme uses Custom Fields you have to manually set them via the Wordpress Web Admin Tool. If you know any Live Writer plug-in that can handle Custom Fields please share it in the comments section.

Switch to Windows Live Writer and you’ll never regret your decision!
